After replacing a pdf, word, or excel file and you are still seeing an old version of the file, try these steps to help clear the cache.

Change Browser Settings in Internet Explorer

If you are a web manager who often makes changes to your website, you'll want to change your settings to ensure you see the latest version of a web page or file.  To change your setting in Internet Explorer:

  1. Click the gear/tools icon in the upper right corner of the browser
  2. It will open the settings dialog box and display the General Tab
  3. In the Browsing History Section, click on the Settings Button
  4. Change/Ensure the radio button for "Every Time I Visit the Webpage" is selected under the "Check for newer versions of stored pages".
  5. Click OK

Delete Temporary Internet Files

  1. Click the gear/tools icon in the upper right corner of the browser
  2. It will open the settings dialog box and display the General Tab
  3. In the Browsing History Section, click Delete...
  4. Ensure "temporary internet files and website files" is checked.
  5. Click Delete

Rename Short Name of File (pdf, doc, xls)

Another option would be to rename the short name.  This short name appears in the web address.  Please note: renaming the short name may break any links from other web pages.

  1. In Plone and logged in as a web editor, navigate to the file.
  2. In the green bar, click Actions -> Rename
  3. Edit the field - New Short Name
  4. Click Rename All
