I'm having trouble accessing the School of Medicine SharePoint site. How can I login?

To access the School of Medicine's SharePoint site, you'll need to use your academic/Eservices login (computingID@virginia.edu). Using your Health System email (computingID@hscmail.mcc.virginia.edu/computingID@uvahealth) will not work.

If you do not remember the password for your Eservices account, you can change it by logging into the Identity and Account Management Portal. Since your Health System password works for Netbadge, you can use that to log in and specifically change your Eservices password. No changes will be made with your Health System password.

My new employee needs a UVA Health Systems Account. Can a SOM IT Desktop Technician complete this on my behalf?

To obtain a UVA Health Systems Account for your new employee, you'll need to complete a request for a UVA Health System/Local Area Network (LAN) Account. A SOM IT Technician cannot complete this form on your behalf because it requires information about the new hire that they do not have access to.

I need to access to Adobe (or another type of software license). How can I request this?

You can request software licenses by submitting a Service Request (SR). Once logged into MyHIT, use the option to "Request Desktop PC/Phone Service" to make your request.

My team is moving to a new location. How far in advance should I request equipment move support?

As soon as you know of the move, submit a Service Request to request assistance, noting who the main point of contact is for this move. Once logged into MyHIT, use the option to "Request Desktop PC/Phone Service" to make your request.

Ideally, a request for equipment move support should be made about fifteen (15) days in advance of the move date. The SOM IT Tech will work with the main point of contact to conduct a walkthrough of the old and new spaces if needed, coordinate jack activations, and will support the physical move as well.

I have a PC purchased from a third party. Is this an issue?

The computer that you purchased from a third-party (e.g. Best Buy) may not be compatible with the various requirements in place within the School of Medicine, UVA Health, and the University of Virginia. It is strongly advised that you work with SOM IT when purchasing a new computer to ensure that:

  • The computer will work within the School of Medicine (and University of Virginia) environment without issues
  • The computer has all of our standard suites of software on it (which is done when the computer is imaged)
  • The computer has proper warranty coverage in case of hardware failure (which includes on-site tech repair from Dell)

Additionally, working with SOM IT on new purchases may result in faster turnaround times for initial setup and troubleshooting of problems, as there is a “standard” in place.

There will always be exceptions to the rule, and in such cases, it is still advised that you work with SOM IT to configure and purchase a computer to fit your needs and to help ensure that it is compatible with the various requirements in place. Most times, a computer "off the shelf" will not work.

I purchased a standard Mac for my new employee. How long does it take to be imaged?

Once you submit an SR to have the Mac imaged, and a Tech is assigned, it typically takes about 1 business day to configure the computer, install the standard suite of software, and fully encrypt it.

I work in a SOM Research Lab and my computer needs service. Who do I contact?

Computers within the School of Medicine that are university assets (purchased using university funds) are supported by SOM IT. Service can be requested by contacting the HIT Help Desk at 434-924-5334 or by submitting a request via MyHIT.

In cases of computers connected to research equipment (such as microscopes, etc.), support might need to go through the vendor of the equipment, as many of these computers are specially configured.

How can I check my Health Systems Email on a Research Lab shared computer?

Health System email can be checked via the web interface at https://email.healthsystem.virginia.edu. If you have been migrated over to a Microsoft365 email account (computingID@uvahealth.org), the link will provide an outlook.com link to click to be redirected to your email.

Where can I order a new mobile phone?

How is my name displayed on an email sent from my computingID@uvahealth.org email address to an external recipient? Does it only show my computing ID or does it show my name as well?

When an email is sent to an external recipient from your computingID@uvahealth.org email address, it displays your full name as well as your email address.
